Paul George to leave Pacers after next season

NBA: Paul George's Future — Was Larry Bird Leaving Pacers a Clue?

George instructed his agent to inform new Pacers president Kevin Pritchard of the All-Star forward's plans, according to the Vertical. The move would allow James to be a power forward, with the rest of the lineup set with Tristan Thompson at center, Kyrie Irving at point guard, and J.R. Smith at shooting guard.

George may even already have a certain team in mind.

What leverage do the Pacers have? .

Paul George wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, eventually. There's a player option for 2018-19, too.

The report goes on to indicate that George, a California native, would prefer to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers when he opts out of his current deal a year from now. Thus, the only other players that IN would really be interested IN are Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, and Tristan Thompson.

That projected No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz was willing to work out for the Lakers felt, inside the building, like a sign that the Lakers were once again an attractive destination for stars. George was a candidate to be sent to a contender this summer, but now it could be hard to acquire in meaningful assets in return for George if he has his heart set on Los Angeles.

As Wojnarowski notes, "the Lakers can create the necessary salary-cap space to sign George next summer and won't be compelled to make a dramatic offer to IN now".
