Derek Jeter, a dream fulfilled

The Yankees have now retired every single single-digit number.

Derek Jeter is introduced as the New York Yankees honor the 1996 World Series team at Yankee Stadium.

This was another and vintage Derek Jeter moment in the Bronx.

"Jorge had the big ears, Andy had the big nose". In the regular season, Jeter hit.310 with an.817 OPS.

"Playing here in NY for 20 years, I learned that time flies, memories fade but family is forever", Jeter said. "I'll start with thank you to George Steinbrenner and the Steinbrenner family".

I was asked recently by someone they was if you could trade places with, one person, who would it be?

"My dad wore number 13 when he was playing at Fisk University in Tennessee, so at any point in my sports career I tried to get the number 13", Jeter said. "Mr. November" received a bronze plaque for his legacy in a ceremony at a sold-out Yankee Stadium. Time will tell if that will come true, or if he will come close to the retired Yankee captain. "We've seen a couple of good pitchers", Girardi said.

He scored just three points in the second half with none coming in the final 16:31 of the contest. "Everybody did their part". The Warriors await a possible third straight championship matchup with Cleveland , which leads Boston 2-1 in the East finals.

Jeter is often thought to be a player that can't be defined by stats. "He's one of the game's greatest, and I was lucky enough to play his last season with him". If you'd like to read Michael Jordan's full letter published to The Players' Tribune you can do so below.

He did it with unwavering belief in his skill and unnatural calm under pressure. "Any time I'm unprepared, it makes me uncomfortable". "He was just the complete package". Because the truth is, no matter where you go in the world, when a place feels like home, as NY does to me, you never really leave.

"Guess it was the No. 2 magic tonight", Bregman said with a grin. "I think any time Derek comes back, it's special, but this will be more meaningful, I think, and I think we're all looking forward to it". Time and time again he'd come up with big hits.

"What do you say on a day like this?"

Jeter spent two decades with the Yankees and finished his career as the team's all-time leader in hits (3,465), games played (2,747), at-bats (11,195), doubles (544) and stolen bases (358). Teammates loved him, current players revere him.

Only a few thousand fans were at Yankee Stadium for the start of an afternoon makeup of Saturday's rainout, and more rain fell during the Yankees' two rallies. The relationship between Jeter and A-Rod has appeared to deteriorate over the years. Definitely on YES. I know that much.

Earlier in the week, Jeter penned an essay on his website The Players Tribune, which he titled "Thank you NY".
