Deadline to file taxes is Tuesday

Deadline Tuesday for tax returns in Alabama

If you file for an extension, you will have until October to do your taxes.

Normally, if the tax deadline falls on a weekend, the deadline is shifted to the following Monday. But because the District of Columbia will observe Emancipation Day on Monday, taxpayers have a reprieve until Tuesday.

Of course, there are many different taxes that exist in the United States, and around the world. Before you drive yourself insane to get your return filed in time for the deadline, make sure you actually have the appropriate paperwork on hand. Filing the form and obtaining a lien release was previously a routine matter, but since last June, the IRS has been requiring that the entire net proceeds from the sale of the property be deposited into an escrow account or into the estate's estate tax account with the IRS.

You'll need to file Form 8283 if your deduction for all noncash gifts over $500.

To avoid these, you'll need to estimate the 2016 tax you owe and submit a payment with the Form 4868. (Filing electronically and signing up for direct deposit can expedite the process even more.) Paper filers, meanwhile, typically have to wait six to eight weeks to see their refunds.
